No matter what your major is, you’ll need access to a computer during your time at DigiPen. All new, incoming students are required to provide their own laptop computers. Additionally, some degree programs may require the purchase of additional software — refer to the Required Materials List for details about necessary software by course.

The recommended technical requirements for your laptop can be found below. You are free to purchase a computer meeting these requirements from any vendor you choose, though we do recommend purchasing a warranty for repairs.

The specific technical requirements for the software used by the different academic programs does vary. Art students tend to have the most demanding needs, while the requirements for others are generally lower. As a student progresses into the higher-level courses, the technical demands usually become more intensive.

The general system requirements include:

  • Screen Size: 15-inch or larger.
  • Operating System: Windows 10 Home or later.
  • Processor: Intel i7 or better (i9 recommended).
  • RAM: 32 GB RAM minimum.
  • Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 or better (Not AMD).
  • Hard Drive: SSD (Solid State Drive) with 1TB or more.
  • Ports: At least two USB 3.0 ports and at least one HDMI port.

The laptop must be capable of supporting:

  • Wired ethernet (a USB-C port and an ethernet adapter is sufficient).
  • Headphones (a USB port is sufficient).
  • Microphone (does not have to be built-in).
  • Webcam (does not have to be built-in).

Our computer labs are stocked with all of the hardware and software needed to meet the requirements for each course of study, but owning your own laptop will give you more flexibility to complete your work from any location, which may be necessary if you are unable to access campus facilities. DigiPen provides Wi-Fi and guest wired connections on campus for laptop use. The DigiPen Library also has laptop computers that you may borrow for temporary use.
