On September 6, DigiPen was privileged to welcome renowned artist and animator Glenn Vilppu to its Redmond campus.

Vilppu, a former animator at Walt Disney, Warner Brothers, and DreamWorks animation studios and author of The Vilppu Drawing Manual and The Vilppu Sketchbook, taught two sessions of figure drawing to DigiPen’s BFA students. His lectures and demonstrations introduced new techniques and new ways of thinking to attendees, and he even sat in on a full figure drawing session where he gave direct and helpful critiques to individual students.

Vilppu was so pleased with his visit that he gave the school two of his drawings from the workshop for DigiPen to frame and display. He also sent every student who attended his talks a .pdf of the information he covered, as well of scans of the drawings he created during his visit.

It was inspiring for DigiPen students to be able to watch a real master at work (as well as meet the man who wrote their textbooks!), and we hope to welcome him back next year for a longer session.
