DigiPen Housing, LLC seeks to provide a welcoming and inclusive living environment for its students. All-Gender Housing is an option in which two or more students share a multiple-occupancy apartment, in mutual agreement, regardless of each student's sex, gender, gender identity, or gender expression. This allows students in the process of discovering their gender identity; students who do not wish to identify themselves by gender; gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender students; and students who feel more comfortable with a roommate of a different sex or gender the option to find a more compatible roommate and living situation within our community.
All-Gender Housing may be especially appealing to:
DigiPen Housing strongly discourages students of any sexual orientation who are in a relationship with another resident of DigiPen Housing from living together, although our application does not question students' interest in living in All-Gender Housing. All students that are placed within All-Gender Housing will be asked to complete an agreement to ensure mutual understanding of the community expectations.
If you are interested in living in All-Gender Housing, please submit a DigiPen Housing Application, available on October 17, 2016.
Who can participate in All-Gender Housing?
Students in All-Gender Housing must be 18 years of age (or parent's consent) and eligible to live in DigiPen Housing. This option allows students in the process of discovering their gender identity; students who do not wish to identify themselves by gender; gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender students; and students who feel more comfortable with a roommate of a different sex or gender the option to find a more compatible roommate and living situation within our community.
What are the differences between same-gender housing and all-gender housing?
The term "same gender" refers to the fact that only one gender of people (male or female) will be placed within the housing unit. All-gender housing allows an individual who identifies with any gender to live with another individual, regardless of what their gender identity is.
What if someone who requested to take part in All-Gender Housing decides that they no longer wish to do so?
If students would like to change rooms prior to their move-in date, they would need to contact DigiPen Housing via email (housing[at]digipen[dot]edu) and let us know of their request. DigiPen Housing will do its best to make this change, but it will be based on availability and placement.
If students would like to change rooms after moving in to DigiPen Housing, they will need to follow the normal room change procedures that are outlined in our DigiPen Housing Handbook.
What if parents or guardians don't want their student to live in an All-Gender Housing unit?
Our policy states that students must be 18 years old at the time of housing move-in in order to participate in All-Gender Housing. Students who will be 18 years old after housing move-in will need parental consent before this housing option will be available to them.
