Degree Requirements for the 2017-2018 Cohort

Number of Credits and GPA

The BS in Computer Science and Game Design requires completion of at least 140 semester credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better. The program usually spans eight semesters of fifteen weeks each, or four academic years.

Grade Requirements and Core Courses

Students must receive a grade of 1.7 (or C-) or higher in all core courses for the BS in Computer Science and Game Design major. (In a non-core course, a grade of 1.0 [or D] is considered passing.) The core courses are those taken to fulfill the Computer Science, Design, and Projects requirements below. All required MAT courses, along with PHY 200 and PHY 200L, are also core courses.

Computer Science

The following courses are required: CS 100, CS 120, CS 170, CS 180, CS 225, CS 230, CS 280, and CS 330. Six additional credits must be selected from other courses with the designation CS that are numbered 200 or higher. (Total: 33 credits)

Mathematics and Science

Students must take MAT 140, MAT 150 or MAT 180, MAT 200 or MAT 230, MAT 258, PHY 200, PHY 200L, and PHY 250. Nine additional credits must be selected from other courses with the designation PHY or BIO that are numbered 250 or higher. Courses with the designation MAT that are numbered 220 or higher can also count for this additional credits requirement. (Total: 33 credits)

Design

The following courses are required: GAT 101, GAT 210, GAT 211, GAT 240, GAT 250, GAT 251, GAT 315, and GAT 316. Three additional credits must be selected from other courses with the designation GAT that are numbered 200 or higher. (Total: 28 credits)

Projects

The following courses are required: GAM 100, GAM 150 or GAM 152, GAM 200 or GAM 205, GAM 250 or GAM 255, GAM 300 or GAM 302, and GAM 350. Eight additional credits must be selected from other courses with the designation GAM that are numbered 375 or higher. (Total: 30 credits)

Humanities and Social Sciences

The following courses are required: COL 101, ENG 110 or ENG 116, and COM 150. Three additional credits must be selected from any course with the designation ENG. A further three additional credits must be selected from courses with the designation COM, ENG, ECN, HIS, LAW, PHL, PSY, or SOS. (Total: 13 credits)

Art, Computer Graphics, or Music

One of the following courses is required: ART 105, CG 102, CG 125, CG 130, or MUS 115. (Total: 3 credits)

Note on General Education Courses

The following courses satisfy the general education requirement for the BS in Computer Science and Game Design: COM 150 (3), ENG 110 or ENG 116 (3), one ENG elective (3), MAT 140 (4), MAT 150 or MAT 180 (4), MAT 200 or MAT 230 (4), PHY 200 (4), PHY 200L (1), PHY 250 (4), and one Humanities and Social Sciences elective (3).
