Annual Security Report
January 1, 2006

This Annual Security Report is generated to inform the student body, prospective students, faculty, and staff of the DigiPen Institute of Technology about crime prevention and statistics. This report is in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act.

The DigiPen Institute of Technology is located in the 5001 building of Nintendo of America. Nintendo has security staffing twenty-four hours a day seven days a week.

Currently DigiPen has security staff on duty Monday though Friday From 2:00pm to 10:00pm and Saturday from 10:00am to 6:00pm.

The on duty security officer will handle most reports of criminal behavior and emergencies on campus. This officer will coordinate assistance and investigations with outside agencies. A report of criminal activity or emergency can be made by contacting the administration office or security in person or by telephone. The crime rate in and around the campus is inherently low.

It is the intent of the DigiPen Institute of Technology to use the means necessary to prevent crimes from occurring. It is the immediate responsibility of the campus community to report any criminal activity. Each member of the campus community should exercise reasonable precautions to minimize risks to themselves and to others on campus.

Awareness is essential to effective crime prevention. The Institute will inform students, faculty and staff of incidents involving crimes against persons and property. In the event of a security alert that poses a threat to the physical safety of the campus community, notification will be broadcast via intranet, e-mail, newsletter, memo, or bulletin.

The DigiPen Institute of Technology Security staff receives their enforcement authority for campus rules and regulations from the Institute. The On duty security staff is in direct communication with the Nintendo Security Control Center. Redmond Police are summoned to provide assistance, make arrests, and investigate criminal matters on campus.

DigiPen is a closed campus facility that requires the use of ID Access Card technology. The security system enables the administration to set the parameters for student access. With this system the Institute is able to access track and log the movement of students, faculty and staff within the building.

The Director of Security hosts the Safety and Security web page for the students, faculty and staff. This web page contains all current public safety information.

DigiPen Institute of Technology policy prohibits the use or distribution of illicit drugs or alcohol on campus. The Institutes polices are patterned after state laws. Possession or use of firearms or other weapons on campus, except by law-enforcement officials, is strictly prohibited.

The Institute in accordance with applicable law prohibits forcible and nonforcible sex offences. For further information see the Institute's Harassment Policy. The policy defines sexual harassment, reporting procedures and complaint resolution processes.

A victim of a sexual offence should report the crime immediately to Security Services. The victim also has the option to contact the Redmond Police Department. If the victim indicates a need the Institute will assist in contacting the Police Department.

Medical attention is the first priority in the event of a sexual offence. It is imperative to seek medical attention for injuries and to collect evidence in the event of criminal prosecution. The victim is also encouraged to seek counseling support from the Student Service Department, the King County Sexual Assault Crisis Center or another counseling service. Students have the right to request that all reports to the counseling service be kept confidential.

The Institute’s Harassment Policy outlines the procedure for campus disciplinary action in cases of an alleged sexual offence. The accuser and the accused are entitled to the same opportunities to have others present during a disciplinary proceeding. Both the accuser and the accused shall be informed of the outcome of any campus disciplinary proceeding brought alleging a sexual assault.

The King County Sheriff's Department is responsible for maintaining records of registered sex offenders in Redmond. To identify registered offenders in your neighborhood or area, follow this link.

Below are statistics for the three previous calendar years. The Redmond Police Department provides the statistics for incidents occurring on streets and sidewalks bordering the campus. The Director of Security compiles these statistics for a summery of on-campus crimes and crimes bordering the campus.
